ACCIONA DISCOVERS THE WILD FAUNA INHABITING THE AREA AROUND ITS FACILITIES

ACCIONA carried out an environmental research project in order to study the wild fauna inhabiting the area around its facilities, using a photo-trapping technique.

In an initial phase, 30 Company facilities located in various of Spain’s Autonomous Regionswere selected – waste water treatment plants, vineyards and wineries, wind farms and roads. A total of 42 photo-trapping cameras, with sensors for activation by movement, were located around these facilities.

Observation is aimed especially at detecting carnivorous mammals, as it is one of the groups of species considered most sensitive to human presence and activity.

Results so far, show that the compatibility between the mammals species found and the different types of facilities analyzed over time, having photographed 80% of the carnivorous mammals that live in the Iberian Peninsula, as well as no carnivorous mammals species and birds.

This project have disclosed revelant data about fauna habits and their geographic distribution.
