07/05/2017 ACCIONA Agua is developing since 2014 the LIFE-BRAINYMEM project (Advanced-control MBR for wastewater reclamation). During this time, ACCIONA Agua has developed a control strategy, the BRAINYMEM® control, which varies the biological air flow based on a novel online sensor that measures nitrogen species in activated sludge (ammonium and nitrous oxide), as well as the membrane air flowrate to adjust it to the real-time needs of the plant. With BRAINYMEM technology, along these three years of work, the control has been optimized and achieved a final 22% saving in aeration energy consumption in an MBR demonstration plant compared to the plant operating without control (38% reduction associated to the membrane aeration and 19% reduction associated to the biological aeration). This Project has been co-financed by the European Commision as part of the LIFE+ programme, which is the financial instrument of the European Union exclusively dedicated to environmental protection. Durante este tiempo, ACCIONA Agua ha desarrollado una estrategia de control, el control BRAINYMEM®, que actúa sobre la aireación biológica en base a la medida de un novedoso sensor online que mide especies nitrogenadas en el fango activado (amonio y óxido nitroso), así como sobre la aireación de membrana, ajustando la aireación a las necesidades reales de la planta en cada momento. Con la tecnología BRAINYMEM, en estos tres años de proyecto, el control se ha optimizado hasta conseguir reducir en un 22% el consumo energético de aireación en una planta MBR en comparación con la planta trabajando sin control (38% de reducción con el control de la aireación de membrana y 19% de reducción con el control de la aireación del reactor biológico). Este proyecto ha sido cofinanciado por la Comisión Europea como parte del Programa LIFE+, que es el instrumento financiero de la Unión Europea dedicado exclusivamente a la protección del medio ambiente.
