The Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, visited the ACCIONA Renewable Energy Control Centre (CECOER) in Sarriguren (Navarra) this afternoon.
This facility is the largest, global-scale centre devoted to renewable energy. It manages 12,800 MW in 18 countries across five continents.
The CECOER manages the operation of 301 wind farms, 80 hydroelectric plants, 10 photovoltaic plants, 6 solar thermal plants, 5 biomass plants and 250 transformer substations in real-time and enables the integration of the energy produced by these facilities in the power grids of each country.
Šefčovič went to the CECOER as part of a visit to Spain to start the second Energy Union tour, which seeks to promote dialogue among citizens, businesses, academia, government, politicians and civil society on the major challenges that Europe faces in the energy sector, as well as on the set of legislative and regulatory proposals from the European Commission which includes the Energy Union Package.
