ACCIONA will supply electricity of renewable origin to AENA for an estimated 23.5 million euros

05/16/2014

The company was awarded the contract for the highest energy supply of those approved by the airport operator, for a total of 345 GWh.

ACCIONA will supply electricity to all the airports on the Spanish mainland - with the exception of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat − and airports located in the Canary Islands.

ACCIONA has won the contract for the highest amount of electricity supplied of those called for tender by Aena for the 2014-2015 period. The company will supply the airport operator with 345 GWh (345 million kilowatt-hours) of electricity for one year to cover the needs of all the airports in its network except Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat and the Balearic Islands locations. The contract multiplies by 2.3 the amount of power ACCIONA currently supplies to Aena and represents estimated revenues of 23.5 million euros.

As a result, from October 1st 2014 ACCIONA will provide electricity generated from renewable sources to 45 Aena supply points in airports on the Spanish mainland - among them Málaga-Costa del Sol, Bilbao, Valencia, Asturias and Santiago de Compostela - and also to all Canary Islands airports.

This is the third consecutive contract ACCIONA has signed with Aena, through its subsidiary company ACCIONA Green Energy Developments. The last one, also for one year, covered the supply of 149 GWh. As in all the contracts signed by the company, 100% of the energy supplied will come from renewable sources, with certification of origin issued by the national Competition Commission.

55% more energy supplied in 2013

Through this award, ACCIONA continues to strengthen its energy marketing business to end customers. In 2013 it supplied a total of 5,110 GWh, an increase of 55% on the previous year. Last year, the revenues associated with these contracts were around 367 million euros.

The marketing of power to major customers is a business area where ACCIONA - a world leader in the development, construction, exploitation and operation of renewables facilities - completes its presence throughout the value chain of the energy sector.

Contract with Danone

ACCIONA Green has also signed contracts with other customers for 2014. One of them is with Danone for the supply of electricity to all the group's facilities in Spain, for an estimated volume of 133 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

The contract covers the supply of power to 33 supply points (both high and low voltage) including Danone's four Spanish factories at Salas (Asturias), Valencia, Tres Cantos (Madrid) and Parets del Vallés (Barcelona), its mineral water subsidiaries Font Vella (with bottling plants in Girona and Guadalajara) and Lanjarón (Granada), and other logistics and packaging companies such as Graham Packaging or Salvesen.

ACCIONA Green has also signed electricity supply contracts for 2014 with Seat Volkswagen, Canal de Isabel II Gestión, Acuamed, and Metro de Madrid.
