The Environment Secretariat of the state of Rio de Janeiro has awarded ACCIONA Agua, in consortium with the Brazilian companies SERVENG and GEL, a €117 million contract to build the wastewater treatment system of São Gonçalo, the second-largest city in the state after Rio de Janeiro.
The new water infrastructure will service a population of 250,000 and involve the environmental recovery of the Alcântara and Mutondo river basins.
The project, which will be built over 36 months, includes the construction of a complete sanitation system including a wastewater treatment plant with a flow rate of 1.2 m3/second and a pumping station with capacity for 1.99 m3/second, a sewerage network, a drainage system, a pumping station at Yamagata with a flow rate of 1,560 litres/second, 8 low-flow pumping stations, and connections to households.
This is ACCIONA Agua’s second contract in Brazil. The first involved the renovation and improvement of the Arrudas water treatment plant in the state of Minas Gerais. This facility is now operational.

ACCIONA Windpower, an ACCIONA subsidiary that designs, manufactures and sells wind turbines, has been awarded contracts to supply 666 MW of capacity in Brazil with its 3 MW wind turbine, designed in-house.
To cover the increasing demand, ACCIONA Windpower has installed a hub assembly plant for wind turbines in the state of Bahia, and is readying a nacelle factory in the same state, with entry into service planned for the last quarter of 2014. The company has also installed a plant that manufactures concrete tower structures for its wind turbines at Areia Branca, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. In addition, ACCIONA Windpower buys wind turbine components such as blades from local suppliers.
In the services sector, ACCIONA Forwarding has subsidiary companies in the states of São Paulo, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, providing air transport, logistics and delivery services for customers such as Embraer, Calcados Arezzo and GAM.
