ACCIONA Agua takes the GWI Distinction Water Deal of the Year for Mundaring WTP

The Helena Water consortium, made up of ACCIONA, TRILITY, Brookfield Multiplex and Royal Bank of Scotland, obtains recognition for its PPP financing model for the Mundaring Water Treatment Plant (Perth, Australia).

ACCIONA Agua has received another distinction in the Global Water Intelligence awards, in recognition of the Company's cutting-edge projects and practices in the water services industry. The Mundaring (Perth, Australia) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has been recognized in the "Water Deal of the Year" category in the 2012 GWI Awards. Global Water Intelligence is the international water industry's leading publication and its annual awards are voted by more than 14,000 industry professionals and experts. The award was collected by Luis Castilla in a special ceremony held in Rome.

The Mundaring WTP award comes in the "Water Deal of the Year" category in recognition of the project's contribution to advancing Public Private Partnership (PPP) financing models in the international water industry. This project is ACCIONA's first PPP water treatment project in Western Australia, setting a new milestone in consolidating its footprint in the country.

The plant will deliver drinking water to the Goldfield and Agricultural Water System (G&AWS) in the state of Western Australia, and it is the first PPP infrastructures project of its kind.  Capacity will start out at 165 million liters/day, with a maximum capacity of 240 million liters/day. The project is helping to consolidate ACCIONA Agua's presence in Australia and gives ACCIONA's water division the chance to broaden its range of water treatment activities. As well as the Mundaring WTP, ACCIONA Agua is part of the AdelaideAqua consortium which is building the Adelaide Desalination Plant in South Australia.

This is the sixth year running that ACCIONA has received these awards: in 2007 it took GWI's "Desalination Plant of the Year" award; in 2008, it received the same award for Tampa (USA); in 2009 it received the "Most Sustainable Project" for the Beckton desal plant, in London (UK); in 2010 it was honored with the "Water Company of the Year" award, and in 2011 it took two awards, namely "Contract of the Year", for its Atotonilco Wastewater Treatment Plant, in Mexico, and "Best Desalination Plant" for the Beckton facilities.

This award joins the two awards won in April by Mundaring drinking water plant: Asia-Pacific Water Deal of the Year 2011 by Project Finance Magazine and the 2012 Government Partnership National Infrastructure Excellence Award by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia.

The Project Finance Awards - started 13 years ago - are for innovation, deal repeatability, best practice, problem solving, risk mitigation, value for money and speed of delivery in the financing of infrastructure projects, large or small.

Infrastructure Partnerships Australia is a national forum, comprising public & private sector CEO Members, advocating the public policy interests of Australia's Infrastructure Industry. It marked the sixth time IPA has convened the National Infrastructure Awards, bringing together almost 600 of the sector's most senior public and private sector leaders. As with previous years, the nomination was judged by an independent judging panel and recognises the deep level of collaboration between the Water Corporation of Western Australia and the Helena Water Consortium.
