The Energy Division of ACCIONA is reaffirming its commitment to the US wind power market on its stand in Windpower 2010, the biggest sector fair in the world that opened yesterday in Dallas (Texas). The company is taking advantage of the fair to highlight its strength through its dual facet of windpark developer and manufacturer of wind turbines using in-house technology.

The Windpower Fair, organised by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), will bring together around 1,300 exhibitors and more than 20,000 visitors until 26th May.

To date ACCIONA Energy has installed 490 MW of wind power capacity in the USA in the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois and Oklahoma. It has several thousand more megawatts under development and has a wind turbine manufacturing plant in the state of Iowa.

On its stand, ACCIONA shows its experience of over 20 years as a wind power developer. In this period it has put into service around 5% of all the installed wind power capacity in the world, in the form of 271 windparks totalling more than 7,700 MW (6,230 MW are owned by the company).

It also emphasises its position as a wind turbine manufacturer, through ACCIONA Windpower, with 1.5 MW and 3.0 MW machines capable of achieving availability rates of over 98% to optimize the investment because this leads to high performance levels.

To date ACCIONA Windpower has manufactured a total of 712.5 MW for the US market, 56.6% for its parent company ACCIONA Energy and the remaining 44.4% MW for other developers.

In other renewable technologies, ACCIONA owns and operates a 64 MW CSP plant in the US (Nevada Solar One), the biggest built in the world in the last 19 years. It is currently applying for permits to built other CSP projects in five states in the south-west of the country.

With companies from Navarra

Coinciding with this fair, last Sunday the Development Director of ACCIONA Windpower, Patxi Landa, participated in a working breakfast organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Government of Navarra aimed at companies in the Spanish region that are interested in entering the US market.

Landa reviewed ACCIONA Energy's track record in the country, pointing out the specific features of one of the markets with the greatest growth potential in the world wind power market.
