Regional President lays first stone of new Emergency Unit at Navarre Hospital

The Unit will be built by ACCIONA Infrastructure in a temporary joint venture, at an investment of  21.3 million euros.

Construction work is expected to last 18 months.

The President of the Regional Government of Navarre, Miguel Sanz Sesma, accompanied by the regional minister of Health, María Kutz Peironcely and the Mayor of Pamplona, Yolanda Barcina, today laid the first stone of the new Emergency Unit of the Hospital of Navarre. The Unit will be built by ACCIONA Infrastructure -- in a temporary joint venture with Soniclima -- on the Hospital grounds, at an investment of 21.3 million de euros.

The new building will be an extension of the Hospital, which will see its floor space grow five-fold, from the current 700 square meters to 35,000. The Unit will be sited opposite the existing hospital building and construction work is expected to take 18 months, without interruption to the Hospital’s activities.

This new extension, earmarked as a priority in the regional government’s four-year regional infrastructure development plan, Plan Navarra 2012, will bring the number of emergency rooms to 16 (from the current 8), and observation beds will go from 10 to 15. The new facilities will include radiology rooms and additional spaces for patient reception, follow-up and control, all on the ground floor.

The project also includes two floors with no specific activity assigned for the time being, but which have been structured and designed for eventual fitting-out for operating theaters or other uses and services.

The Unit will feature a rooftop heliport connected by bed elevators to the Emergency Room and to the Ambulance Center located in the basement.

The hospital complex includes centrally heated water in each building; the system uses heat generated by its own cogeneration unit, which applies enhanced treatment methods to avoid the risk of legionelosis.
