ACCIONA holds on to the top spot in its sector, ups its points total and scores higher in all three dimensions economic, environment and social.

03/09/09For the third year running, ACCIONA heads its sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX), the international benchmark indices in sustainability and socially responsible investment, as announced today in the annual review for both indices.

ACCIONA topped sector scores in the environment and social dimensions, improving on last year’s performance. It also scored higher overall and is now better-placed than two years ago, when it already held the number one spot in its sector.

This progress highlights ACCIONA’s commitment to implementing best international practices and ground-breaking sustainability measures, thanks to which the Company has set the bar at a new high. One of the characteristic features of the Dow Jones indices is that they use the highest-scoring company as a benchmark in their assessment of other companies.

In terms of individual assessment criteria, ACCIONA obtained a particularly high score for the level of eco-efficiency of its operations, its corporate strategy with regard to climate change, the standards of control applied to suppliers, the organization of human resources and workplace health and safety and the management of the company’s Code of Conduct and Ethical Channel.

The DJSI indices include the leading sustainability-driven companies in Europe (DJSI Stoxx) and the world (DJSI World) in the economic, environment and social dimensions. The new list of components will be made effective on September 21 2009.

Several factors explain why the Dow Jones indices are a world benchmark in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development policies. The information required is exhaustive, the analysis is rigorous and the scoring system follows a best-in-class approach, measuring each candidate against the company with the best results.

From a financial point of view, the DJSI indices have consolidated their role as catalysts for socially responsible investment strategies. Investment companies in more than sixteen countries worldwide manage approximately six billion dollars referenced to the Dow Jones sustainability indices.
