ACCIONA ranks sixth among Spanish companies in terms of investment in R&D and Innovation, according to the EU’s latest R&D Investment Scoreboard 2009.

ACCIONA ranks sixth among Spanish companies in terms of investment in R&D and Innovation, according to the EU’s latest R&D Investment Scoreboard 2009.

The Company’s firm bet on the area of R&D and Innovation is reflected in 91 projects and 48 filings for patents, with 71 million euros in investment, up 82% on 2008, pushing ACCIONA three places up the EU scoreboard over the past year.

Innovation is one of the main pillars of the recent “Re_” campaign, an initiative that went beyond the scope of a conventional advertising campaign, taking on the role of a full-blown statement of ACCIONA’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and social well-being as a global leader in infrastructure, renewable energy and water treatment services.

The “Re_” campaign touches on several aspects of ACCIONA’s R&D and Innovation investment efforts:

  • Re_invent to extract algae to make the fuels of the future.
  • Re_place concrete with materials that keep down CO2 emissions.
  • Re_design buildings that are self-sufficient in terms of generating zero emissions.
  • Re_cycle and Re_use all the water used in the home.
  • Re_inforce the use of biotech and nanotech to obtain more sustainable construction processes.
  • Re_think energy storage and design the electricity distribution system of the future.
