Rafael Mateo, new General Manager of ACCIONA Energy

He will report to Carmen Becerril, who was recently appointed President of ACCIONA Energy with effect from January 1st 2009.

Rafael Mateo has joined ACCIONA as General Manager of ACCIONA Energy, and will report directly to Carmen Becerril. To date Ms Becerril has been General Manager, Corporate Resources of ACCIONA, and she will become President of the Energy Division of ACCIONA as from 1st January 2010. Rafael Mateo was previously General Manager of Endesa Chile.

This appointment takes place within a process of reorganization of the management team of ACCIONA’s Energy Division that has been driven from the Board of Directors as part of a strategic relaunch of the company. The aim to strengthen the organizational structure of ACCIONA Energy in the light of the new strategic challenges that it will have to face in this new phase.

Born in 1959, Rafael Mateo is a graduate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Zaragoza and has since followed the General Management Program of IESE and the Management Development Program of INSEAD.

He developed his career in Endesa, starting as Manager of the Thermal Power Station at Teruel (Spain) from 1982 to 1997.

He later became Production Manager, until 1999.

That year he took over as Production and Project Manager of Endesa Chile, with responsibility for Latin America, and from 2004 became General Manager, responsible for organizing 18 000 MW of generating capacity in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.
