ACCIONA Agua has secured an Operation & Maintenance (O&M) contract for the Andorra Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the adjoining Thermal Sludge Drying Unit (TSDU), following a tender called by the Principality’s Ministry of Territorial Organization and the Environment.
The 35,300m3/day facility will supply water to a population equivalent of 100,000.
The contract is split into three stages: the first will run until 2010, followed by a second stage of 2 automatic extensions, and a third and final stage comprising annual negotiated extensions, up to a maximum 15 years.
This is ACCIONA’s first water services contract this year. In 2009, the Company secured a number of O&M commitments for WWTPs, including a high-profile O&M technical support contract for the Arrudas WWTP in Minas Gerais, Brazil. In Spain, the Company took on the running, conservation and maintenance of the Copero Purification Plant, Seville’s main facility, with service capacity equivalent to 1.4 million people; and the Calatayud WWTP (Zaragoza) with a reference population of 60,000.
As regards purification plant construction, one recent highlight was the deal for the world’s largest WWTP, in Mexico.
ACCIONA is a leading water treatment services provider, in Spain and across the globe. It has also developed and built potable water facilities, tertiary treatment plants for water reuse and Reverse Osmosis desalination plants, all of which deliver water services to a total 50 million people in 20 countries all over the planet.
