Marking World Environment Day, and as part of the ACCIONA's commitment to education, the Company held its annual "Corporate Volunteer Day" on 8 June. More than 300 employees in Spain, Mexico and Chile took part by giving talks on Sustainability to youngsters in schools up and down those countries.

The day's theme was "Preparing future generations", and ACCIONA volunteers gave entertaining workshop sessions aimed at getting youngsters involved and priming them, in a fun and interactive way, on a range of important issues, such as climate change, energy savings and efficient use of water, among others. The ultimate aim is to raise awareness among youngsters on the importance of the environment and the need to show respect for it in order to build a better future, and they are urged to take on the responsibility to act accordingly in their day-to-day life.

The talks, with young children and pre-teens between the ages of 7 and 11, lasted for about an hour-and-a-half, and nearly 5,000 schoolchildren attended in Spain, Mexico and Chile.

As an additional part of this initiative and in an effort to make it an ongoing activity, all of the schools that took part in the Corporate Volunteer Day will be given access to the Company's Sustainability Workshop, ACCIONA's online education program which provides resources for teachers and pupils and with which ACCIONA has been contributing for many years now towards preparing the generations of tomorrow for the challenges posed by Sustainability.
