José Manuel Entrecanales, reappointed to theExecutive Committee of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development

ACCIONA Chairman & CEO, José Manuel Entrecanales, has been reappointed for a further two years to the Executive Committee that supervises the long-term strategy and vision of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a 200-strong multinational business platform that pursues the shared mission of coming up with business-side solutions and proposals for driving sustainable development. As well as ACCIONA's Chairman & CEO, the 14-member Executive Committee is made up of Jorma Ollila, Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell; Fujio Cho, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, and Michael Morris, Chairman & CEO of American Electric Power, among others.

Mr Entrecanales was first appointed to the Executive Committee of the WBCSD (http://www.wbcsd.org/) in 2009, and ACCIONA has been a member of the Council since 2005, taking an active part in disseminating, training and research activities, as well as aiding engagement with Governments and international institutions in an effort to foster development based on economic, social and environmental balance.

ACCIONA is currently participating in the Urban Infrastructure Initiative (UII), which focuses on business contribution to coming up with practical solutions aimed at helping Administrations and Governments to create cities that are more sustainable.

Mr Entrecanales' reappointment to the Executive Committee of the WBCSD took place in the course of the Council's latest meeting in Munich (Germany).  There, the different Working Groups reviewed progress made in a range of plans and programs and looked at the possibility of creating new projects and initiatives aimed at coming up with solutions to the challenges posed by  sustainability. At the same time, the Meeting helped WBSCD members to generate innovative approaches and to design convincing messages prior to the RIO+20 Meeting (Sustainable Development Summit 2012), scheduled for June of next year, and in which the United Nations will call upon the assembled governments, public and private and other leading players, to take steps to reduce poverty, and to foster dignified jobs, clean energies and a fairer and more sustainable use of resources.
