All the buildings will apply sustainability principles in their design, construction and maintenance and will take into account factors such as location, materials and processes and optimum energy efficiency.
These four centers join the León Bajo Hospital - run by ACCIONA Servicios Hospitalarios SLB (hospital services) - which last year became the first hospital in Latin America to obtain ISO 9001 certification for its Quality Management System. This certification ensures that organizational operations are carried out correctly and to a high level of excellence, according to international standards and with particular emphasis on customer service. The El Bajío High Speciality Regional Hospital (HRAEB) is located in the city of León (Guanajuato province). Construction and maintenance were awarded to ACCIONA under the public-private investment scheme, following an international tender called by the Public Health Secretariat of the Directorate General of Physical Infrastructure.
These construction projects are not ACCIONA’s first infrastructure ventures in Mexico. In November 2008 the Campeche State Secretariat of Public Works awarded ACCIONA a 142 million Mexican peso (around ten million euros) contract for the construction of the Ciudad del Carmen conventions center, scheduled for completion in August 2009. The 32,000 square meter center has its won parking facilities and green spaces.
Several months earlier, ACCIONA Infrastructure had been awarded a 220 million Mexican peso (16 million euro) contract for the extension of the ‘Campeche XXI’ conventions center. The center is located on the city’s Pedro Sainz de Baranda breakwater and the works affected a built area of 18,000 square meters, and included electrical installation, hydro-sanitary equipment, air conditioning, and voice & data.
ACCIONA runs San Luís de Potosí University’s new campus as a concession. The campus was also built by ACCIONA, making the Company a pioneer in taking the PPP financing model to the education sector.
ACCIONA Real Estate is present in Mexico City and Acapulco with a portfolio comprising more than a thousand homes through its Parque Reforma subsidiary.
And the Group’s energy arm, ACCIONA Energy announced at the end of last January that it would build a 250.5 MW wind park in Oaxaca and that the facility’s entire electrical production would de acquired by the Mexican cement producer Cemex for its own use. The 550 million dollar (427 million euros) ‘Eurus’ wind park will be Latin America’s largest in terms of installed capacity.
