ACCIONA Infrastructure has been selected by Mexico’s Social Security Institute (IMSS) to build the Sustainable Regional Hospital in the municipality of Metepec (Mexico State). The 615 million peso (32 million euros) contract is for the drafting of the executive project and the construction of a five-story, 32,500 square meter, 236-bed hospital.

The Metepec hospital will be the sixth built by ACCIONA in Mexico, where the Company is building four other hospitals and has already completed another.

In all, ACCIONA is building four hospitals for the IMSS worth a total 500 million euros (two of them are part of the IMSS Oportunidades program, aimed at covering the needs of the country’s most underprivileged rural areas). They are the 40-bed Tecate Hospital; the 30-bed Atzalán Rural Hospital in Veracruz; the Mamentel Rural Hospital in Campeche (similar to the one in Atzalán), and the Family Medicine Unit in Mexicali, Baja California, which has ten doctor’s surgeries. These centers join the already completed and fully-functioning León Bajío Hospital, run by ACCIONA Servicios Hospitalarios HLB. Last year the hospital’s Quality Management System passed external audit according to ISO 9001 standards and became the first hospital in Latin America to obtain this certification.

All of the above hospitals apply the strictest sustainability principles in their design, construction and maintenance, taking into consideration factors such as location, materials and processes and energy savings.

An outstanding presence

As well as hospitals, ACCIONA has carried out other high-profile projects in Mexico. The Company built the 142 million pesos (7.3 million euros) Ciudad del Carmen Conventions Center, and extended the Campeche XXI Conventions Center, to a budget of 220 million pesos (11.3 million euros).

ACCIONA is the concessionaire of the new campus of the San Luis de Potosí Polytechnic University. The Company also built the campus, making it a pioneering exporter of PPP financing in the education sector.

With offices in Mexico City and Acapulco, ACCIONA Real Estate has a portfolio of more than a thousand residential properties through the Company’s local subsidiary, Parque Reforma.

ACCIONA Energy has completed the assembly of the Eurus windpark, a 250.5 MW facility that represents an investment of 550 million dollars (€ 367 million). The windpark is the biggest in Latin America and the biggest ever built by ACCIONA in the world. The power generated by Eurus is equivalent to the consumption of a population of 500,000 and will avoid the emission of around 600,000 metric tons of CO2 to the atmosphere a year.
