  • The contract includes the supply of ten AW125/3000 turbines and operations and maintenance services for ten years.

ACCIONA Windpower, an ACCIONA group subsidiary dedicated to the design, manufacture and sale of wind turbines, has completed a turbine supply agreement with Building Energy for a 30 MW wind power project located in central Iowa. Under the agreement, ACCIONA Windpower will  deliver ten AW125-3000 turbines and provide operations and maintenance services  to the project for ten years.

Each  of the turbines will have a rotor diameter of 125 meters and a 3 megawatt  generator mounted on an 87.5 meter steel tower, a configuration designed for maximum production at the lowest cost of energy. This project will expand  ACCIONA Windpower’s footprint in the United States to over 1,400 MW. ACCIONA Windpower will support the project  from its North American headquarters in West Branch, Iowa.

Building  Energy is a global renewable energy company with experience in 24 countries  worldwide. The Iowa project will be Building Energy’s first wind farm in the  United States. It is expected to be online by November 2016 and will supply electricity to Alliant Energy.

“ACCIONA Windpower is proud to partner with Building Energy to further the growth of  clean energy here in Iowa and around the globe,” said Enrique Teruel, CEO of  ACCIONA Windpower North America. “We are confident that ACCIONA Windpower’s  turbine technology will help make this project a success.”

“Building Energy is delighted to collaborate with ACCIONA Windpower, a major player in the wind power sector. We have chosen this company for their expertise and the performance of their turbines, which is a crucial factor for the project outcome.” said Andrea Braccialarghe, Building Energy Managing Director USA.

Presence in the USA

ACCIONA Windpower has achieved sales in the USA of over 1,400 MW, making the US market  the biggest outside Spain for the company. Of this capacity, 537 MW belongs to  its most advanced platform, the AW3000 of which the company has sold 2,577 MW  in 9 countries.

Among the major contracts signed in the USA are 165 MW for the Cameron wind farm in Texas, the  biggest renewable project by Ikea in the world, and the 300 MW Green Pastures wind farm (also in Texas) for the investment fund manager Capital Dynamics.
