ACCIONA will work with Unibail-Rodamco to promote energy efficiency and sustainable electrical mobility in its shopping malls

The company will install electric vehicle charging posts in the 14 malls that Unibail-Rodamco manages in Spain.

ACCIONA Energy will be a priority collaborator of Unibail-Rodamco in the implementation of activities to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions and recharge electric vehicles in the 14 shopping malls the company manages in Spain, according to the collaboration agreement signed by both companies. One of the first measures under the agreement will be the installation of electric vehicle recharging posts in the malls - which receive around 120 million visits a year - before the second quarter of 2011.

The agreement, signed by ACCIONA Energy President Carmen Becerril and Unibail-Rodamco general manager for Spain Simon T. Orchard, responds to the coinciding interests of both companies in the field of energy efficiency and sustainable mobility.

Unibail-Rodamco has been promoting a policy aimed at reducing energy and water consumption, separating waste, reducing emissions, and promoting the use of sustainable transport in all the shopping malls in its portfolio.

ACCIONA's subsidiary ACCIONA Eficiencia Energética (part of its Energy Division) carries out, among other things, sustainable action plans in the field of energy, the environment and mobility in cities. This includes consultancy, auditing, engineering and energy management to promote efficiency and reduce emissions, plus the implementation of recharging infrastructures and the supply of energy from renewable sources for electric vehicles.

According to the terms of the agreement, Unibail-Rodamco undertakes to consider ACCIONA a priority partner in the implementation of initiatives in the area of energy efficiency and management, and also in sustainable mobility in the shopping malls it manages. For its part, ACCIONA undertakes to give priority to Unibail-Rodamco's requests in these fields.

130 shopping malls in twelve countries

Unibail-Rodamco is a leading operator, investor and developer of commercial property assets in Europe. In Spain, its shopping mall portfolio includes 14 sites with a surface area of around 473,000 square metres, located in Madrid (3), Barcelona (3), Seville (2), Valencia, Valladolid, Cadiz, Torrevieja (Alicante), San Sebastian and Albacete.
