- ACCIONA will build a 2...
The project is worth 1,407 million Brazil Real, nearly US$700 million.
ACCIONA has been awarded two lots of the Northern Section of the Rodoanel Mario Covas roadway, one of the main ring roads in São Paulo (Brazil).
The auction, which was split into six lots, closed at a total BRL 3,906 million (around US$1,915 million). At the end of January 2013, ACCIONA Infrastructure obtained lots 4 and 6, worth BRL788 million (approximately US$386 million) and BRL619 million (about US$303 million) respectively. Together, they call for 25 kilometers of construction.
Total construction work comes to 44km and will close the 177-long ring road; work on the roadway first began more than ten years ago in the city's metropolitan area with the aim of reducing road traffic congestion, bringing down pollution levels and avoiding heavy vehicle traffic in the city center. It will also help to redistribute passenger- and goods traffic form and to other regions of Brazil and neighboring countries, as well as improving road access to the country's two main international entry points: the port of Santos and Guarulhos airport.
ACCIONA Infrastructure first entered Brazil back in 1996 and since then has carried out infrastructure projects for public and private clients, such as remodeling São Paulo's "La Luz" station, managing and operating the Londrina-Warta-Cambé-Cambará roadway (known as Econorte), building the Volkswagen plant in Resende, or remodeling the Vera Cruz film studios complex, the Julio Prestes railway station (now a concert hall) and the Martiniano de Carvalho building in São Paulo, now Telefónica Head Office.
More recently, in 2011 the Company was picked by Banco Santander to build its Data Processing Center in Campinas (Brazil); the Center supports the bank's LatAm operations. The project, worth 75 million euro, includes the construction of a complex with a total surface of 89,000 square meters, featuring two 28,000m2 data centers and a logistics center.
Also in 2011, the Company was awarded the Build contract for the outer seawalls of the Açu super-port, and in 2012 it won the Build contract for the shipyard, both located in São João da Barra.
In 2007, ACCIONA Infrastructure was awarded the Finance, Reclamation, Conservation, Enlargement and Toll Concession (25 years) contract for the BR-393/RJ roadway. The roadway runs parallel to the border between the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro as far as Dutra (BR-116). It is 200.4km long and the concession period is for 25 years.
ACCIONA Forwarding, a provider of bespoke logistics and transport solutions, has been operating in Brazil for more than a decade. In 2009, ACCIONA extended its range of activities in Brazil to water management following a contract award from Copasa (the private-public enterprise that manages the water supply and sewage services for the country's second biggest state, Minas Gerais) for technical assistance for the Operation and Maintenance of the Arrudas wastewater treatment plant. Similarly, in 2012, ACCIONA Windpower, dedicated to the design, manufacture and marketing of wind turbine generators, signed with CPLF Renováveis company a contract for the supply, installation and maintenance of 120MW for the Atlántica wind farm, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
