ACCIONA volunteers teach sustainability workshops to over 13,000 students in 13 countries

06/15/2016
  • On the company's fifth annual Volunteer Day, 600 employees visited more than one hundred schools in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Greece, India, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, South Africa and Spain.

ACCIONA held its fifth annual corporate volunteer day, in which employees became teachers for a day, leading workshops on sustainability for children aged 6 to 10. This year, 600 employees took part, teaching over 13,000 schoolchildren.

The ACCIONA volunteers visited over 100 schools and, for a few hours, told the students about the importance of sustainable development. In this fifth edition, the activities and games focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the four with which our employees are most familiar because of their work: efficient water management, renewable energy, resilient infrastructure, and combating climate change.

The main goal of Volunteer Day is to involve children with improving the environment through small everyday gestures and to raise their awareness about the active role they can play in achieving sustainable development. It also imbues the values of sustainability in our employees.
