ACCIONA to build a new General Hospital in Nogales (Sonora), Mexico

The infrastructure project represents an investment of 623 million Mexican pesos, some 34.3 million euros.

ACCIONA has been awarded a contract to build the first General Hospital of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in the city of Nogales, Sonora.

The 144-bed General Hospital of Nogales will have a surface area of 27,500 m2 and will be located close to the Technological University of the city, which lies on the US-Mexican border. The infrastructure project represents an investment of 623 million Mexican pesos (some 34.3 million euros). The hospital will improve the health care provided to the 220,000 inhabitants of Nogales and those of nearby cities, such as Magdalena, Benjamin Hill and Puerto Peñasco.

The hospital, a pioneer in the region, will be built to international LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) sustainable construction standards. Energy self-sufficiency will be enhanced with the installation of solar panels on the hospital roof, while thermal insulation structures will keep the hospital cool during the hot summers of the Sonora desert. The construction phase of this project was launched this week, and is expected to be complete by October 2015.

The General Hospital of Nogales is the seventh that ACCIONA builds in Mexico - a fact that underscores the Company's commitment to developing modern, functional and sustainable social infrastructure.

This commitment has been set out in a Sustainability Master Plan, drawn up by the Company on a global scale. This plan has achieved a reduction of 18% in the occupational accidents rate over the last four years. In this respect, over the last five years, ACCIONA has provided over 400,000 hours of training on protecting the environment and health and safety at work.
