- ACCIONA-led consortium...
ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada and its Peace River Hydro Partners (PRHP) announced today that they have signed a contract with BC Hydro, a Canadian electric utility, for the main civil works component of the 1,100 MW Site C clean energy project.
Led by ACCIONA, the PRHP consortium is comprised of ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada (37.5%), Samsung C&T Canada LTD (37.5%) and Petrowest Corporation (25%).
The main civil works contract is valued at approximately CAD$1.75 billion and includes the construction of an earth fill dam, two diversion tunnels and a roller-compacted–concrete foundation for the generating station and spillways.
The Site C project is the largest ever undertaken by ACCIONA in Canada, and marks 15 years of successful infrastructure delivery in the country. ACCIONA estimates the construction work will create over 8,000 person years of employment over the eight-year contract. A series of job fairs and business-to-business networking sessions will be held in early 2016.
“ACCIONA is proud that our joint venture was selected by BC Hydro to build one of the largest infrastructure projects in Canada” said Darren Sokoloski, President of ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada.
“This is a challenging and exciting project. We look forward to commencing construction in the new year.”
The Site C hydroelectric dam marks ACCIONA’s third major infrastructure project in British Columbia, following the successful completion of hospitals in Fort St John and Vancouver.
Elsewhere in Canada, ACCIONA is involved in the construction of critical transport infrastructure in Alberta and Ontario. Through its Energy division, ACCIONA owns and operates wind farms, and builds wind farms for third-party clients.
