ACCIONA has become part of the  Caring for Climate Steering Committee, the joint platform of the Global Compact and the Environment Programme of the United Nations to strengthen  the  role of the business world in the strategy against climate change and, very shortly, at the United Nations Climate Change Summit  (COP 16) which will be held in Cancun from 29th November to 10th December.

The Steering Committee is made up of directors from 11 companies in diverse economic sectors and geographical areas, and its mission as an assessment body will be to promote the strategic, operational and financial development of the Caring for Climate initiatives.

Besides ACCIONA, the Steering Committee is formed by Cemex, China Mobile, The Coca-Cola Company, Deutsche Telekom, The Dow Chemical Company, Eskom, Fuji Xerox, Novo Nordisk, Sekem Group and Tata Steel.

Caring for Climate was launched in 2007 by the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, with the aim of mobilising a critical mass of business leaders in order to implement solutions to climate change and thus put pressure on governments and political institutions. Caring for Climate is currently made up of 400 companies from 65 countries.
