ACCIONA is awarded its first water contract in Oman, consolidating its presence in the middle east

Majis Industrial Services, a publicly-owned company of the Sultanate of Oman, has awarded ACCIONA Agua - in a consortium with Sogex Oman LLC, part of the Bahwan Group, - a contract for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the desalination plant at Sohar, a port located 230 kilometers north-east of the country's capital Muscat. The agreement will be effective for five years, with a possible two-year extension.

Majis Industrial Services is the exclusive water supplier for all the industrial customers in the Industrial Port of Sohar. The Port consists of 3 main areas: Logistics, Petrochemicals and Metals. Among its customers are world-renowned companies such as Vale, Air Liquide, Larsen & Toubro, Methanol Holding International and Jindal Power & Steel.

The approximate sum of the contract is 20 million euros, including the technical redesign and improvement of the plant. The contract is the first awarded to ACCIONA Agua in Oman and it strengthens the company's presence in the Middle East, where ACCIONA Agua already has permanent operations in three Gulf countries. The planned production capacity of the plant is 20,000 m3 per day - either potable water or for industrial processes - and includes two sections of potable water piping and two backup pumping stations for seawater.

It is the fourth large-scale contract won by ACCIONA Agua in the Middle East, which has become one of the areas with the greatest growth potential in the world in the fields of water desalination and treatment as a result of its scarcity in the region.

Last year, ACCIONA Agua was awarded O&M contracts for the Haddah & Arana treatment plants in Saudi Arabia and another for the design, construction and start-up of the seawater desalination plant at Al Jubail (also in Saudi Arabia), plus the design, construction, start-up and operation over seven years of the extension of the Fujairah desalination plant in the United Arab Emirates.

ACCIONA Agua is a world leader in the desalination of seawater and brackish water, through reverse osmosis. The company has built more than 70 desalination plants, with total potable water production of over 2.3 million m3 per day, to provide supplies to more than six million people.
