The Alcañiz circuit is approved for international motor sport events, such as F1 and Moto GP, and vehicle trials for carmakers.

The MotorLand Aragón racing circuit in Alcañiz, Teruel, built by ACCIONA Infrastructure in partnership, recently opened its doors to the public. The track, part of a complex comprising pit boxes, medical facilities, control tower and other buildings also built by ACCIONA Infrastructure, is approved for top-level car and motorbike racing events, such as Formula One and Moto-GP.

Construction work included the track itself, which is 5,345 meters long with a constant width of 12 meters, with eight right-hand bends and ten left-handers.

It takes 89 seconds to complete a lap at an average speed of 214.5 km/hour. ACCIONA Infrastructure also built the adjacent buildings, such as the control tower, pit boxes, media center, medical center and cafeteria, among others. Construction work lasted 20 months at a cost of 50.5 million euros.

Sustainable construction principles

To limit the track’s impact on the environment, the grandstand was stepped into naturally sloping ground instead of using a traditional metal structure, blending into the landscape. The grandstand’s stepped terraces, set among wooded areas that provide shade, are made with treated wooden beams, similar to railway sleepers.  Moreover, olive trees affected by the construction work have been re-sited in landscaped spaces within the Ciudad del Motor (Motor City) complex itself to help achieve a balance with the natural surroundings.

A track for all motor racing categories

The track, designed by one of the world’s leading track specialists, Herman Tilke, who was advised by the Spanish F1 driver, Pedro de la Rosa, has received FIA 1-T approval, which means it can stage all kinds of motor racing events: Formula 1-T, Formula 3000, Formula 3, Makers’ Championships, sports vehicles, GT (Gran Turismo) and Touring Car. The circuit is also approved for motorbike racing: Moto-GP, World Motorbike Championships, Superbike, Motorbike Makers’ Championship and Sidecar racing.

As well as being suitable for F1 training sessions, the track is an ideal test circuit for auto makers. The technical spec of the longest straight (1,726 meters) makes this track potentially one of the best in Europe for aerodynamic testing.

MotorLand Aragón

The MotorLand Aragón speed circuit opened its doors to the public on September 6 with the First MotorLand Aragón Saloon Car Speed Championship. MotorLand Aragón is a 350-hectare complex located approximately five kilometers from Alcañiz, in Teruel province, just off the N232 Zaragoza-bound highway, standing adjacent to a spot known as La Estanca. Apart from the speed circuit itself, the complex comprises a track for international go-kart racing, off-road tracks for motocross, autocross and supermotrad racing. MotorLand Aragón also features a tech-park and there are plans to open a shopping and leisure area at a later stage.
