ACCIONA awarded the water services management contract for the municipality of La Unión (Murcia, Spain)

The end-to-end service of the domestic drinking water supply, distribution and the sewer system is worth a total 92.8 million euros.

The Town Council of La Unión (in Spain's Murcia region) has awarded ACCIONA Agua the concession of the indirect management of the municipality's drinking water supply and its sewer system for a 25-year period. The deal is worth 92.8 million euros and the Company will service nearly 19,000 local inhabitants.

This new contract gives ACCIONA Agua an even more solid footing in Murcia's water management market; the Company already operates locally in the municipalities of Molina de Segura, Archena, Ceutí and Lorqui, which, along with La Unión, represent a total population of more than 120,000 inhabitants.

ACCIONA Agua's sets out first and foremost to deliver excellent service for the residents of La Unión, using cutting-edge Customer Management Systems technologies. ACCIONA Agua will manage the integrated water cycle and will also take care of the commercial side of the operation. It will also use advanced technology to improve existing infrastructures, making them more efficient and more environment-friendly.

ACCIONA Agua has similar contracts with more than 70 municipalities the length and breadth of Spain, and serves more than three million inhabitants.

ACCIONA's most relevant water management contracts include the running of the drinking water supply, sanitation and wastewater treatment for Cáceres (western Spain); the integrated water cycle for the Costa Tropical de Granada Municipal Association; a joint venture providing end-to-end services for the Jaen Provincial Authorities (south-central Spain) in more than 35 municipalities and for more than 250,000 inhabitants; and the Operation & Maintenance contract for the entire sewer system of Valencia, on Spain's eastern coast. ACCIONA Agua also runs the sewer system covering 50% of the Madrid region (central Spain).
