ACCIONA is awarded the electricity supply contract to Acuamed for an estimated sum of 48 million euros

05/27/2015

ACCIONA Green Energy Developments, the ACCIONA Energía subsidiary that markets renewable energy, has won the annual contract for the supply of electricity in 2016 to Sociedad Estatal Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterráneas (ACUAMED), a publicly-owned company that reports to the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, for an estimated 48 million euros.

The contract, which has been renewed every year since 2011, covers the delivery of around 671 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity supplies ― entirely from renewable energy sources ― to desalination and potable water plants and other facilities managed by ACUAMED.

Among the facilities covered by the contract are the desalination plants at Carboneras (Almería), Torrevieja (Alicante), Águilas and Valdelentisco (Murcia), the potable water plant at Albacete and the Júcar-Vinalopó water transfer station.

Also with CLH

ACCIONA Green has also signed an electricity supply contract with Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos (CLH), the leading storage and transport company in Spain for petroleum products.

The contract, in force for the whole of 2016, includes the supply of around 252 GWh to 285 points along the group’s entire distribution network in Spain. This includes transport and storage facilities, offices and other premises.

“We are very pleased with these latest operations, which demonstrate the competitiveness of our range of electricity supplies to large customers. We thank ACUAMED for renewing its confidence in our service, and we are also pleased to add CLH to the growing group of companies that have placed their confidence in us”, says Santiago Gómez Ramos, Managing Director of ACCIONA Green Energy Developments.

The power delivered to both customers will be certified as renewable by the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC). The combined volume of both contracts will avoid the emission of more than 877,000 metric tons of CO2 to the atmosphere from coal-fired power stations.

ACCIONA Green Energy Developments is the principal marketer of 100% renewable energy in Spain, with around 4,000 GWh supplied to large customers last year. These include Aena, Canal de Isabel II Gestión, Metro de Madrid and Coca-Cola Partners. The company was recently awarded the supply of electricity to 12 hospitals in the Region of Madrid.
