ACCIONA Agua named World Water Company of the Year by GWI

For the fourth year running, Global Water Intelligence, the international benchmark publication of the water industry, prefers ACCIONA Agua to the world's water services giants.

ACCIONA Agua has been named World Water Company of the Year by Global Water Intelligence magazine, the sector's most prestigious publication. The distinction recognizes ACCIONA Agua as the company that made the most important contribution towards the sector's international development in 2009; it also comes as recognition of ACCIONA's strategy in this activity.

ACCIONA Agua takes the award for the fourth year running: in 2007 it was named Desalination Company of the Year; in 2008 it won the Best Plant award for Tampa (the largest of its kind in the US, with a capacity of 108,000m3/day), and last year it was chosen as the Most Sustainable Project for its desal plant in Beckton (London, UK).

In 2009, ACCIONA Agua entered four new international markets: Brazil, with the Arrudas wastewater treatment plant (WTP); Australia, with the Adelaide desal plant (one of the largest in the world); the Dominican Republic, where it won a potable water plant project in Peravia; and Mexico, with the world's biggest WTP, in Atotonilco.

ACCIONA Agua is one of the divisions for which ACCIONA has the brightest hopes for the future. The Company's Strategic Plans envisages annual growth of 17% for this business area, reaching 950 million euros in 2013.

Global Water Intelligence is the international water services industry's most prestigious publication. Voting took place among more than 6,260 subscribers across the world and the awards ceremony, held in Paris in the presence of Queen Noor of Jordan, was attended by major industry players. ACCIONA Agua president Luis Castilla collected the award on behalf of the company.
