ACCIONA Agua, which manages the maintenance of the potable water and sewerage system in eight districts of Lima in a joint venture with Eulen, has implemented Proyecto GOTA in the city. It consists of a telecoms system that connects all the parties involved in the resolution of failures and the maintenance of installations in real time, from the moment when an incident is detected until it is solved. This improves coordination and considerably reduces repair time, minimizing water outages and leaks and also knock-on effects on traffic and the daily life of the city.
To do this, ACCIONA Agua has implemented an overall computerized solution that manages the reception, allocation and resolution of work orders in a planned, efficient manner, providing all the work teams with latest-generation high-capacity 4G mobile devices to transmit data, graphics and geo-positioning information on a permanent basis. The system coordinates operators and establishes priorities based on a number of parameters such as the specialization of the work crews, scope of the action, location or urgency. It also allows the customer and the end user to know the state of work in progress and provides a monitoring tool to obtain reliable indicators to improve the efficiency and quality of the service provided, as well as its cost.
Proyecto GOTA has been designed to ensure non-stop operation, possible growth and a good recovery capacity in the face of unexpected events. The implementation was done using ACCIONA Agua infrastructure, based on an Operations Center that provides 24/7 support.
ACCIONA AGUA is the division of the ACCIONA Group that undertakes the end-to-end management of the water cycle, designed to provide a service to citizens from the collection and potabilization stages to treatment and return to the environment. At present, ACCIONA Agua covers the supply needs of more than 90 million people in over 30 countries worldwide.
ACCIONA Agua manages the corrective maintenance of the potable water and sewerage system of Lima for SEDAPAL in a joint venture with Eulen. The system covers eight districts of the Peruvian capital with a population of 4.5. million. The company undertakes the maintenance of the potable water and sewerage systems of the south zone of the city and the commercial management of water in the north and central zones of Lima. These activities include the replacement of 61 kilometers of water supply and sewerage pipes, the substitution of over 17,300 household connections and the maintenance of valves, fire hydrants and macro-meters.
In Lima, ACCIONA Agua is also undertaking the construction and operation of the La Chira wastewater treatment plant. It will carry out the maintenance and operation of the plant for 25 years, providing a service to 18 districts in the city with an average treatment capacity of 6.3 m³ per second and a maximum capacity of 11.3 m³per second.
Over the last 20 years ACCIONA has carried out many of its business activities in Peru.
The company’s experience in the country dates from 2000, when Petroperú awarded it the construction of the Talara desalination plant (daily production capacity of 2,200 m3), at the time the first desalination plant using reverse osmosis on an industrial level in Peru; the company currently operates the plant. In Arequipa (southern Peru), ACCIONA Agua completed construction work on the city’s wastewater treatment plant - Escalerilla – and began its operation and maintenance for a period of three years.
As well as its activity in Water, ACCIONA has a strong presence in other sectors. The company’s Infrastructure division built its first major work in the country in the 1970s after the award of the Majes Project to irrigate 57,000 hectares of land and install 656 MW of hydropower in the form of the Condorama dam (capacity 280 Hm³) and 23 tunnels through the Andes mountain range with a total length of 98 kilometers. The company was recently awarded the construction of the ‘Daniel Alcides’ hospital in Huancayo, with a total surface area of 25,000 m2.
