The USA represents ACCIONA's largest investment in renewable energy outside of Spain, with more than $1 billion invested in 621.5 MW of capacity installed in wind energy and another 64 MW of thermosolar energy. ACCIONA Water also has a presence in the country in water desalination.
The companyLehrer & Mac Govem Ltd., of which José María Entrecanales Azcárate (father of the current President of ACCIONA) was the CEO and owned 30%, restored the Statue of Liberty in New York between 1984 and 1986.
A 180 MW wind farm comprising 120 ACCIONA Windpower 1.5 MW turbines. It was the largest renewable energy project in North Dakota and South Dakota when it entered into service in 2008, and it generates enough energy to meet the needs of 60,000 American households. The facility avoids the emission of 550,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
With a power of 64 MW, in operation since June 2007 in Nevada, it supplies electricity equivalent to the consumption of 14,000 homes and prevents annual emissions equivalent to 20,000 cars. It has 182,000 curved mirrors aligned along 76 kilometres.
ACCIONA constructed and operates the largest desalination plant in the USA. It supplies water to a total of 2.5 million people, producing 108,000 m3 of water per day. It began operations in 2008 and has received several awards.
ACCIONA Energy is currently building San Román wind farm, a 93 MW capacity facility located in Texas. The plant is designed to supply renewable energy to over 30,000 homes and will enter into service at the end of 2016. Made up of 31 wind turbine generators, of 3 MW nominal capacity each, San Román represents the company’s return to investing in wind energy in the US and will increase owned capacity to 721 MW, distributed across eight wind farms in six states.
