ACCIONA Infrastructures has had a presence in Colombia since the 1970's, and has executed important projects with Entrecanales, Távora, Cubiertas and MZOV. ACCIONA Water has had a presence in the country since 2012. ACCIONA also carries out logistical and transportation activities and has commercial offices for the Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894 wine cellar.
The Guavio Hydroelectric Power Plant is the second-largest power plant in operation in Colombia with an installed capacity of 1,213 MW. It began operations on December 15, 1992. The dam is located in the municipal capital of Gachalá, and dams the water from the Guavio, Batatas and Chivor rivers. The 243 meter tall rock-fill dam forms a 950 million m³ functional reservoir.
As a fruit of the international expansion into Colombia between 1985 and 1997, the company constructed the Medellín Metro. Two lines were executed: the first was 23.22 km in total length, of which 16.72 km were a level road and 6.50 km were a viaduct; it included 19 stations—11 level and 8 elevated. The second line has 5.58 km in total length, of which 4.41 were a viaduct and 1.17 km were a level road, in addition to 5 elevated stations and one level station.
