Marina Arnaldos, a member of the ACCIONA Agua R&D team, has won the American Academy of Environmental Engineering and Science Honor Award for her thesis "Improving Energy Sustainability of Wastewater Treatment by Low DO Nitrification Process". A panel of independent experts chose Marina Arnaldos' work among a number of research papers for its integrated environmental perspective, its innovative content and its contribution to greater economic efficiency and a higher quality of life.
Marina Arnaldos joined ACCIONA Agua's R&D department, specifically as part of the Water Purification team, a year ago. She has been awarded the American Academy of Environmental Engineering and Science Honor Award for her the research into Improving Energy Sustainability of Wastewater Treatment by Low DO Nitrification Process, which she carried out while attending the Illinois Institute of Technology de Chicago, in the USA.
Her thesis sets out to identify the presence of hemoglobin in bacteria in the biological treatment systems applied to wastewater, and to improve the use of oxygen in low-dissolved oxygen conditions. The results will lead to a significant reduction in energy needs at wastewater treatment plants.
