A concession is an instrument for long-term collaboration and association between the government and the private sector in order to execute certain infrastructure projects. By means of a concession, the government grants a right to a private company to design, build, renovate, finance, manage or maintain an infrastructure, and to provide a service for a specific period of time in exchange for a financial consideration provided by the government itself or the end users.
ACCIONA Concessions is one of the leading companies in the private development of infrastructures worldwide, both in terms of number of projects and turnover. This company has the accumulated experience of over 40 concessions down through its history, based on a team with a global focus that is fully tuned in to local needs and peculiarities. At present, it manages a portfolio of 25 concessions distributed around Spain, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil, and in the sectors of transport infrastructure (roads, railways, ports and irrigation) and social infrastructure (hospitals and universities).
The deal for the first hospital in the history of ACCIONA Concessions was signed in 2005 and since then it has garnered experience amounting to a total of over 4000 hospital beds and over 950,000 m2 of social infrastructure on three continents including healthcare centres and universities.
The experience of ACCIONA Concessions in the execution of road and motorway concessions encompasses over 800 km of road constructed around the world, including countries such as Canada, Chile, Brazil, Spain, Andorra, Australia and New Zealand. These projects include different construction challenges such as important viaducts and tunnels.
ACCIONA Concessions’ experience includes projects with different types of tolls (conventional tolls, free-flow and shadow toll) and different kinds of risk distribution (with availability payment and demand risk).
