Cai Guo-Qiang and the spirit of painting, at the Prado

The popular Chinese artist exhibits “The spirit of painting”, supported by ACCIONA, at the Museo del Prado. Innovative art created from gunpowder.

Cai Guo-Qiang (Quanzhou, China 1957) is a unique artist, able to create impressive pictorial works from gunpowder, reflecting his passion, through an innovative creative spirit, for advancing modern art.

“The spirit of painting” is a selection of works prepared with gunpowder,sourced from Valencia (Spain), burned onto canvas to culminate in paintings of up to 18 meters long. Go to our Facebook page to see him creating one of his paintings live in the Salón de Reinos (Hall of Realms) of the Museo del Prado (Madrid, Spain).

This emblematic building, the Hall of Realms, played host to Cai Guo-Qiang’s period as artist-in-residence at the Prado, during which he created the collection of original works that can be seen from 25 October 2017 to 4 March 2018 in the Jerónimos building.
